VERWALL TOUR
At around 95 kilometres, the Verwall circuit is one of the longest routes in the Mountainbikers Paradise, and it is also a classic - the ideal mountain bike tour. Starting from Pians, the tour takes you via Strengenerberg on varied trails to Flirsch, at the beginning of the Stanzertal cycle path. By choosing the route over Strengenerberg, we avoid the main road, though this adds a few extra metres of altitude due to the longer route. From Sankt Anton, the tour joins the Transalp route and leads through the Verwall to the Heilbronner Hütte, the highest point of the tour. The ascent through the Verwall is mostly a pleasant climb to the start of the Verwall Trail and is easy to master. On the Verwall trail itself, there is an irrevocable stretch of pushing and carrying, but this is a minor inconvenience given the tour.´s overall lenght. From the Verwall, we cross the Kops reservoir into Paznaun with stunning views of the Upper Montafon. Along the way, we pass the European watershed of the Rhine and Danube. The route then continues along a well-developed and varied valley cycle path out to Kappl. Anyone thinking the tour is over will be mistaken - as the Paznaun valley continues, the valley path often turns into a more technical trail, adding extra challenge and variety. Although we head out through the valley and lose a lot of altitude, the many small climbs add up to a total of 2,100 metres of ascent at the finish in Pians after around 9 hours of riding. Worth seeing: Ancient Roman traces in Lerch, Kops reservoir, European watershed Rhine-Danube, Alpinarium Galtür, Mathon church, Wiesberg Castle, Trisanna bridge of the Arlberg railway
