ROFENHÖFE
The tour into the Venter Valley is a long one at 40 kilometres, but the nearly 1,000 metres of elevation gain are spread out very evenly. Additionaly, the tarmac surface ensures a consistently smooth ride. At 2,022 metres, the Rofenhöfe farms mark the highest point of the tour. These are the highest farms in Austria open all year round and also offer a convenient refreshment stop. The small municipality of Vent looks back on a chequered history. For many years, the farms were under the rule of noblemen from the South Tyrolean Vinschgau Valley. Even today, up to 2,000 sheep make the journey from the Schnalstal Valley to their summer pastures near Vent each year, following an ancient path that may have also been used by Ötzi, whose remains were discovered nearby.
