GLACIER EXPRESS
Key stats for this mountain bike tour - 30.2 kilometres (including approx. 6.5 km above 2,500 m) and 1,620 metres of elevation gain - make it clear that this is one of the region´s most demanding challenges. The endlessly long ascent on the Ötztal Glacier Road follows in the footsteps of the royal stage of the 2005 Tour of Germany, where the pros were daunted by the 1,600 metres of climbing in one go. The highest point and stage finish is the car park on the Rettenbach Glacier at 2,663 metres above sea level. But take not - bikers should save some energy for what´s to come, as another 150 metres in altitude await on the descent up to the Rotkogeljoch hut. This is where the final trail back to Sölden begins. The trail leads through the new Sölden "Golden Gate" ski area and is a real challenge in terms of riding technique! Steep gravel and singletrail passages demand full concentration and advanced skills. After a short rolling section near Hochsölden, the ride concludes with one one of the most beautiful single trails down to Sölden.
