MEX-Line 1

The single trail MEX-Line 1, built with a lot of passion and imagination, promises plenty of flow and fun not only for beginners, but also for experienced bikers: between the Gailtal Alps and the Carnic Alps, between Carinthia and Italy, between mountain and lake. A perfect preparatory course for the other single trails of the NLW Trail World on the sunny side of the Alps.

Mex Line 1

Anyone who knows the Nassfeld - Carinthia's largest ski area - loves the sheer endless valley descent as the crowning glory. With the MTB single trail MEX Line-1, the region in the Carnic Alps also offers the perfect link between mountain and valley in summer. And an absolute MTB highlight. The cross-border BIKEworld of Mountains & Lakes more than lives up to its name on the MEX Line-1 single trail.

Between nature and flow trails

The BIKEworld of Mountains & Lakes is spread across the entire region: from Nassfeld to Weissensee, there are numerous tours and trails for bikers to discover. The first trails were created around Nassfeld and with them the Trailworld:

  • very natural
  • with lots of roots & rocks
  • perfectly embedded in the high alpine landscape.

Flow trail with endless bends

The MEX-Line 1 is now intended to create accessibility - in more ways than one. While the natural trails are located on the Matritsche at Nassfeld, the MEX-Line 1 was designed as a

  • wide flow trail
  • with almost endless curves and berms
  • with waves and an incredible flow feeling
  • planned from the Gmanberg middle station to Tröpolach
  • to surf all the way down into the valley at the end of the day.

The valley descent The line was

The line has been designed as a very wide flow trail - after the first few metres it is clear that everyone will get their money's worth here:

  • Beginners & families can get to grips with biking
  • experienced riders can jump the waves
  • Speed junkies enjoy the rush of speed and the banked turns

The trail thus combines different types of bikers and fits perfectly into the picture. Because the Nassfeld Pass has always served as a connection. In the Middle Ages, it was still a popular crossing point for travellers to South Tyrol, but over time it became less and less important. The pass only regained its original relevance as a military road during the First World War. Today, it is mainly used for tourist purposes, as it connects Austria to Italy - the Alpine-Mediterranean lifestyle characterises the Carinthian region. And while the northern foothills of the Gailtal Alps near Tröpolach look more like low mountain ranges, the Carnic Alps high up on the Nassfeld Pass open up an impressive mountain panorama.

Attention to detail on the MEX Line 1

But back to the MEX-Line 1 single trail: it is not only an exciting trail, but also an impressive structure. Bend after bend has been dug into the slope and the forest. Numerous waves and berms ensure a long-lasting feeling of flow. Drainages have been built, bends have been paved and it is exciting to see the effort that has gone into creating the best possible experience for us bikers. Attention was also paid to the alignment and sightlines during construction: The view always opens up to the valley or the Gailtal Alps.

Those looking to cool off after biking can jump into Lake Presseggersee, just a few kilometres away. The lowland lake is surrounded by fens and is home to Austria's second largest schilfland landscape - and a few nice places to stop for refreshments right by the lake. There is also a traditional connection to the Nassfeld Pass: according to legend, a cow sank into Lake Constance, which lies halfway up the pass, and reappeared in Lake Presseggersee a few weeks later. This alludes to the underground feeding of the lake.

Development processes

At the same time, MEX Line 1 is also representative of the region's path: slowly but steadily, a top-quality bike region has developed here in recent years - sometimes unnoticed and ridiculed by the higher Alpine destinations.

But once you have experienced Trailworld as part of BIKEworld, which combines the 3 trails at Lake Weissensee in addition to the trails at Nassfeld, you will want to come back. Because of the trails, the people, the mountains, the lakes, the Mediterranean flair and much more.

And so, after surfing the last few bends down the ski slope to Tröpolach, we push our bikes back into the Millennium Express gondola, which takes us back to the start in no time at all. We want more... more curves, more waves, more flow.
