Isskogeltrail in the Zillertal

Variety is the keyword for the Isskogeltrail. Because there is no single trail here, rather a varied combination of several Isskogel trails: these variants make all bikers happy. The Isskogel cable car takes you to the start in comfort.

Isskogel Trail

The Zillertal is an impressive region at the crossroads between alpinism and Alpine tourism, between unspoilt mountain landscapes and diversely used cultural landscapes. The trails on the Isskogel are just as varied. High above Gerlos, the different trail variants offer MTB fun for everyone - from easy beginner flow to an exhilarating canoeing feeling to fast traverses.

Who has the choice ...

There is basically no single Isskogeltrail singletrail, as the trail descent is divided into different variants. They are called Iss-Tough, Iss-Flow, Iss-Shore, Iss-Vertical and Iss-Natural and even the names refer to the different character trails.

The main line in the upper section is the Iss-Flow:

  • suitable for beginners
  • sheer endless, wide curves and traverses
  • through the open landscape into the valley
  • with views of the Durlaßboden
  • Insta-motif: on humid days there is often a thick blanket of fog over the lake, which looks great from the Durlaßboden!

The other trails branch off from the main line with very different characteristics. This means that no two descents are the same and you can vary your trail experience almost endlessly according to your mood.

Add-on: Exercise trail

The mountain bike practice trail in the Zillertal fulfils the requirement of offering all bikers the right terrain. The forest playground is located in Gerlos-Gmünd and consists of a 500 metre long practice trail through a sparse forest, which is equipped with numerous practice elements. This is a great place for the little ones to get to grips with trail riding before they can later enjoy the region's full-blown mountain bike trails. They will soon be able to try out the Iss-Flow. But we are also enthusiastic about this flowing and scenic variant.

Iss-Natural, Iss-Shore & Iss-Vertical

If you want to gradually increase the difficulty, work your way up to the medium and difficult routes. The Iss-Natural surprises us with its natural surface of roots, rocks and ledges, while the Iss-Shore offers long wooden walkways that create a light Canadian feeling. The Iss-Vertical, on the other hand, offers a difficult variant and is extremely steep and technical. The Iss-Tough is the big brother of the Iss-Flow. Here, experienced mountain bikers can expect

  • bigger jumps,
  • Banked turns and
  • fast traverses.

Vertical and natural variant

But the Isskogeltrail also offers the right lines for real mountain enthusiasts with its vertical and natural variants. After all, the Zillertal is also a cradle of alpinism. The Berliner Hütte was built back in 1879 and was the only listed Alpine Club hut until 2013. It arose primarily from a research interest in the Alpine region and increasingly became an important location for extended alpine tours. in 1910, the hut was extended and equipped with 200 light bulbs - the old lady thus defined a new luxury in the field of Alpine Club huts.

We are more frugal at the moment. We are content to combine the Isskogeltrail again and again and soak up the panorama of the diverse Alpine landscape between the Zillertal, Tux and Kitzbühel Alps. We love the alpine combinatorics with their playful approach - because we can recombine the trail/trails to suit our preferences on every new descent.

Biking with family

The Zillertal always shows itself to be very family-friendly and also offers a lot for families:

  • the MTB practice area and the Iss-Flow are the perfect starting points for bike-crazy kids
  • on the Isskogel you can play on a large wooden marble run
  • in Zell am Ziller the spruce castle can be conquered
  • around Gerlos there are climbing gardens, towers & climbing routes in various difficulty classes

So everyone gets their money's worth - just like on the multi-talented Isskogeltrail.
