PLANINA KOFCE
First we ride slightly uphill through the Tržiška Bistrica valley, after which, after almost 7 km of asphalt road in the village of Jelendol, the ascent follows on a gravel path, which is not technically demanding.
Transfer by car from the hotel to the starting point in Tržič (approx. 25 minutes).
Just as the Štruklji (dough rolls) are the most famous traditional Slovenian dish, the mountain hut on the Kofce mountain pasture is known for the best Slovenian Štruklji among all Slovenian Alpine Club huts. So this is a great motivation for us to tackle the 15 km ascent. First, we ride slightly uphill through the Tržiška Bistrica valley, whereupon, after almost 7 km of asphalt road in the village of Jelendol, the ascent follows on a gravel path, which is not technically demanding. After reaching the Pungart pasture and enjoying the view of the Karavanke peaks, the last short section of the ascent to the Šija pasture awaits us, followed by a gentle descent to the Kofce pasture. This is followed by a well-earned meal in the mountain hut directly below the Veliki vrh peak with a view of Triglav. There are several options for the descent back to Tržič: technically undemanding on the gravel path to Jelendol and on to Tržič, or on the technically more demanding route via the Kal pasture (partly a footpath).
