Galzigtrail in St. Anton am Arlberg

The Galzigtrail single trail in St. Anton am Arlberg is a real Tyrolean treat: the technically challenging shared trail offers impressive high alpine panoramic views of the Stanzertal valley, the Lechtal Alps and the Verwall Group. Gravel, forest paths, alpine pastures and tarmac - it has it all!

Galzigtrail

The Galzigtrail in St. Anton am Arlberg is not for the faint-hearted - but rewards you with impressive panoramic views of the Stanzertal valley and the surrounding mountains. The shared trail is quite challenging at times and leads over gravel, forest paths and tarmac across the eastern slope back to the Galzigbahn valley station. So we're getting on the mountain railway again, are you?

Adventure at 2,179 metres: the Galzigtrail

As one of six summer mountain lifts, the Galzigbahn takes us up the 2,179 m high mountain of the same name, which is considered THE hub of the St. Anton am Arlberg ski area in winter. Although the Galzigtrail starts right here at the top station of the cable car, you shouldn't miss out on taking a deep breath and letting your gaze wander. After all, you have an impressive view of the Stanzertal valley from here and we can already see what the first designated downhill trail in the St. Anton am Arlberg mountain bike region has to offer us.

Trail adventure in a fantastic mountain setting

Get in the saddle and off you go to collect metres of depth! The trail, which is categorised as S2 and was opened in 2018, leads us from the mountain station down the eastern slope into the valley. At first, the ride down the slope is quite leisurely on the gravelly bends. There are also challenging sections with large stones, tight, steep bends and a few hairpin bends for experienced and well-equipped bikers to master. Sometimes roots cross our path and the Galzig railway passes over our heads. The Galzigtrail is simply the perfect combination of thrills and breathtaking nature.

A challenging mountain experience

After about 1.5 kilometres, there is a somewhat steeper section on the shared trail in the direction of Dengert. Watch out - there are also hikers here! Once in the Dengert district, we follow Dengertstraße and Alte Arlbergstraße past the Mooserkreuz settlement to our destination - the valley station of the Galzigbahn cable car. What a ride! The Galzigtrail is a real challenge even for fit bikers in the spectacular mountain world of St. Anton am Arlberg. And if you haven't had enough by this point, hop back on the mountain railway and start round #2 of the Arlberg bike adventure!
