Dragon Trail in the Olang - Kronplatz region

Attention dragon tamers! In addition to the full-blown Trailbeast Gassl Trail, there is also the singletrail Dragon Trail to conquer at Kronplatz. But don't worry: the blue Dolomite dragon proves to be very gentle and can also be conquered by complete beginners.

Dragon Trail

Dragon trail tamers can get to the start of the trail in the Valdaora - Plan de Corones bike region in comfort by mountain railway. Nevertheless, the taster trail for beginners requires a touch of heroism. After all, on the 2 km MTB single trail in the Olang - Kronplatz region, you cross the Drachenkopf right at the start and shortly afterwards the Drachenschwanz. You shouldn't tremble when crossing the small floating bridge in the Schafslacke either. The breathtaking panorama will amaze you - and the varied route will provide plenty of fun. So take courage, you MTB squires, and set off on the legendary single trail for beginners!

Kite hunting at Kronplatz

The South Tyrolean region of Olang - Kronplatz is full of myths and legends. The Dragon Trail single trail fits perfectly into the picture. After the ascent by cable car, you start directly at the Drachenkopf - from here it's flowy and winding. The Dragon Trail only shows its teeth from time to time, making it fun even for beginners. Thanks to the small obstacles such as the floating bridge and the WOW panorama all around, it never gets boring.

  • Start in the dragon's head - watch out for the sharp teeth ;_)
  • winds along the gently sloping slope from the Kronplatz summit
  • Duration of the taster ride: approx. 6 min
  • Highlight: floating bridge in the Schafslacke
  • Destination: middle station OLANG 1 + 2

And straight into the next adventure

If the taster trail has whetted your appetite for more trail adventures, you can add the Gassl Trail. This long and also beginner-friendly single trail in the Valdaora - Plan de Corones region takes you a whopping 6 kilometres back down into the valley to the valley station of the OLANG 1 + 2 cable car in Gassl.

And then? Straight back up to Kronplatz and another round of dragon trail taming!

What else there is to know about the trail

Fancy a few side facts about the trail? We reveal insider tips, the best photo spots and everything else there is to know about the trail.

Worth knowing

The name Kronplatz is borrowed from the Ladin toponym Plan de Corones. In the Fanes legend, Plan de Corones is the place where Dolasilla, the invulnerable princess of the Fanes kingdom, was crowned.

Insider tip

Ash and cherry, sycamore maple and the fragrant Swiss stone pine, which thrives in the higher altitudes of the Ahrntal, form the basis for traditional South Tyrolean woodcarving, which is particularly widespread in the Dolomite region. Anyone strolling through Valdaora/Olang will hardly be able to avoid the beautiful woodcarvings of Konrad and Rosa Bachmann.

Photo point
